Government of India has cancelled the Legal Tender status of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 denominations of bank notes of the existing series and announced that from 10-11-2016 onwards public can exchange their notes and deposit the old currencies as well at the Banks and Post Offices.
“In this connection, The Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai Police, conducted meeting with Senior Police Officers and discussed about the provision of bandobust arrangements for the smooth exchange of cash at various Banks and Post offices,” a press release said.
It said Bank Security In-charge Officers were summoned and Senior Bank Officers were contacted to work out the modalities to be followed, in transporting cash from chest to various branches of Banks and ATMs., in the City. Adequate Bandobust arrangements have been made at all the branches of Banks and Post Offices, to regulate the crowd and to prevent any untoward incident.
“About 3000 Police Personnel were deployed for the above duty and Patrol vehicles & special mobiles were instructed to frequent the banks and ATMs. Home Guards services have also been pressed into service. Traffic Police Personnel have been instructed to regulate the traffic near the Banks and ATMs and ensure smooth movement of Traffic.”
