Rowdy shot dead in police encounter in Chennai

A rowdy named Vallarasu was killed in a police encounter during the early hours of today, near a truck terminal at Madhavaram in Chennai.

According to reports, Vallarasu, a proclaimed offender, was rounded up near Vysarpadi by a police team late last night. He stabbed constable Paunraj and fled the scene.

Following this, police teams were formed to nab him. After an intense search, he was finally found at a truck terminal near Madhavaram bus stand.

“When the police team tried to nab him, he attacked them, injuring two sub-inspectors. Left with no other option, the police personnel opened fire at him,” sources said.

Vallarasu died on the spot. Paunraj and other police personnel have been admitted to a government hospital, where they were undergoing treatment.

It is said that Vallarasu was involved in a few murders and other criminal offences. Additional Commissioner of Police R Dhinakaran, who visited the spot, said further investigations are on.
