Rice export resumes at Chennai harbour after 15 years

Chennai Port has successfully resumed the export of rice in bags after a 15-year hiatus by exporting 5,100 Metric Tonnes to Indonesia.

A significant milestone achieved with the export of rice to Indonesia. The cargo was loaded onto the vessel m.v. WAN HE, which berthed at WQ3 berth on 08.12.2024.

This achievement underscores Chennai Port’s commitment to facilitating efficient cargo handling and supporting India’s growing export market.

The port’s ability to handle clean cargo like rice in bags demonstrates its versatility and operational efficiency.

Sunil Paliwal, IAS, Chairperson of the Chennai Port Authority, expressed his satisfaction with the seamless collaboration among all stakeholders.

He extended his gratitude to the vessel agent, M/s. Interocean Shipping (India) Pvt Ltd., stevedore M/s. Aspinwall and Company Limited, the exporters, and the dedicated Port officials for their collective efforts in making this export possible.

This successful export operation reinforces Chennai Port’s position as a vital hub in India’s maritime logistics and trade network.
