After much delay, the teaser of the much-awaited sci-fi thriller 2.0 starring superstar Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar was released on Vinayaka Chathurthi, much to the delight of fans.
The film directed by Shankar and bankrolled by Lyca Productions looks bigger and better. Going by the teaser, 2.0 marks the re-entry of Chitti, the super robot designed by scientist Vaseegaran (both roles played by Rajinikanth).
Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar is the feathered villain whose world domination plan involves our weakness – the mobile phone.
With just a tiny glimpse, we’ve been assured a spectacular and gripping clash of the Supers. The visual effects range from eerie (that murmuration of winged cell phones gave us the heebie-jeebies) to the fantastic (we can’t un-see the metallic giant Vulture clambering up a building).
Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar star in the lead roles in India’s most expensive film, a film worth Rs 550 crore, which took nearly two years and numerous missed deadlines to finally reach this stage.
The teaser begins with birds flying and quickly turns dystopic with cellphones being snatched away from people and flying away. These cell phones metamorphose into different forms, sometimes taking the shape of a giant bird. There are robotic versions of both Amy Jackson and Rajinikanth.
In true Hollywood style, we see the shadow of a monster bird as it flies over skyscrapers. This is Akshay Kumar’s Richard, an eccentric scientist who transforms into the super villain Crow. Other than the silhouette of the bird, we see Akshay in one more shot of 2.0 teaser as the process of his transformation is underway — the famous first look that leaked a few years ago.
