Rajinikanth’s iconic Sri Raghavendra Mandapam may get a new identity
Superstar Rajinikanth’s Sri Raghavendra Mandapam in Chennai’s Kodambakkam is reportedly being considered for redevelopment as a star hotel.
The reported proposal has sparked interest among the actor’s fans, particularly over what could happen to the wedding hall that has been associated with Rajinikanth for decades.
Built during the 1990s, the venue became closely linked to the actor and his fan clubs. Rajinikanth has used the premises for meetings with fan club office-bearers and discussions concerning fan-related activities.
The property also has a notable place in his political history. In December 2017, Rajinikanth announced his decision to enter politics during a meeting with his fans at the venue. Three years later, in December 2020, he abandoned plans to launch a political party, referring to health concerns and the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
He subsequently indicated that he did not intend to enter politics in the future. The reported hotel proposal has now led to speculation about whether the existing structure will be demolished and replaced or whether another developer will take over the project.
It is currently unclear who would undertake the proposed development, what form the hotel would take, or what the future of the existing mandapam would be. More details about the reported project and its developer are awaited.
