An upcoming film of Superstar Rajinikanth was said to be produced by Kamal Haasan under his banner Raaj Kamal Films International and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj of Maanagaram, Kaidhi and Master fame.
However, reports now say Rajinikanth is reconsidering his decision of signing the film as he plans on connecting himself full time with politics before the 2021 Tamil Nadu State elections.
In reel and real life, Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth pursue different paths, but they are on the same page over opposing Tamil Nadu government’s decision to open Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (Tasmac)-led liquor outlets when the state is witnessing a spike in COVID-19 cases.
Kamal Haasan’s political outfit Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) was one of the petitioners against the government in Madras HC leading to the court ordering the closure of shops.
While Rajinikanth issued a warning to the Edappadi K Palaniswami government that it should give up the dream of coming to power again if it opens the liquor outlets in the time of COVID-19 pandemic. The government should look for better ways to fill the coffers, Rajinikanth tweeted.
The release date for Rajinikanth’s next film Annaatthe was recently revealed by Sun Pictures to be Pongal 2021. The movie was expected to be released later this year, but has been delayed like many others due to the lockdown and coronavirus pandemic.
Annaatthe was initially supposed to release in mid 2020. However, shooting got stalled owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing lockdown. It is reported that the unit was shooting in Hyderabad till just before the announcement of the lockdown.
