Rajinikanth expresses outburst over Karuppar Kottam row

Superstar Rajinikanth today criticised Periyarist group Karuppar Koottam for making a derogatory video on Lord Murugan and the Tamil prayer sung in his praise, Kanda Sashti Kavasam, and thanked the State Government for acting swiftly.

“The video from Karuppar Kootam had hurt the sentiments of crores of Tamils. At least now, may the practice of lambasting Gods go away,” he said in a Tamil tweet.

Karuppar Kootam is a Youtube channel, which posted content predominantly critical of Hindu traditions, practices and rituals. It was in this context that Surendar Natarajan, apparently a Periyar supporter, put out a video on July 13 about ‘Kanda Shashti Kavasam’, a traditional Tamil song with lyrics sung in praise of Hindu Lord Murugan.

The denigration of “Kanda Sashti Kavacham,” a Tamil hymn sung in praise of the Lord, had hurt “crores of Tamils,” he said in a tweet.

“My wholehearted appreciation to the Tamil Nadu government for the quick action taken against those who had very badly denigrated Kanda Sashti Kavacham and hurt many crores of Tamils,” he said, and welcomed the reported removal of related videos from the channel.
