A group of farmers led by Ayyakannu met Superstar Rajinikanth in Chennai on Sunday.
During his meeting with a delegation of 16 farmers led by Ayyakannu, the top star assured them his support for their plea to interlink rivers.
Weeks after asking his fans to “prepare for war,” hinting that he might consider joining politics, the Kabali star on Sunday told the visiting farmers that their plea to link the rivers will be represented to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also pledged ₹1 crore in this regard.
“16 farmers met Rajinikanth today for his support to interlinking of rivers,” said farmer leader Ayyakannu. “Rajinikanth promised to work for interlinking of peninsular rivers first.”
“We told him that he should give it to the Centre in order to boost the demand for interlinking of rivers. If somebody of Rajinikanth’s stature insists on interlinking, it would definitely help the cause,” Ayyakannu added.
“We are confident that the superstar will help us. He even spoke to us about the protests that we held in the capital. He asked how we managed in an alien city. He knew about all the forms of agitation we had undertaken,” he added.
