Superstar Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, both actor turned politicians, have reacted to the results of Assembly elections in five states- Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram.
Speaking to reporters at Chennai airport, Rajinikanth said the BJP losing elections in the Hindi heartland states of Chattisgarh and Rajasthan and a close contest with arch rival Congress in Madhya Pradesh showed it has lost its influence.
“It clearly shows that BJP has lost its influence. The electoral reverses for the party were also a setback for it,” he added.
When asked about his earlier comments that Prime Minister Narendra Modi seemed to be a ‘strong’ man, the superstar said, “it (the losses) is certainly a big setback for the BJP. There is no doubt about that.”
Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan in a tweet said, “First sign of a new start. This is people’s verdict.”
Reacting to his party’s performance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the BJP, which has suffered reverses in the elections, accepts people’s mandate with humility.
He congratulated the Congress for its victory in Assembly polls on December 11. Modi also congratulated Telangana Chief Minister K.C. Rao for his party’s landslide win in the State and the Mizo National Front for its victory in Mizoram.
“Victory and defeat are an integral part of life. Today’s results will further our resolve to serve people and work even harder for the development of India,” he added.
