Superstar Rajinikanth is slowly but steadily making his moves into the political front. Close on the heels of batting for Cauvery Board, he today slammed the government over Sterlite row.
In a tweet, he said that people had been protesting against the Sterlite Copper smelter plant for the past 47 days citing health concerns.
“One can’t understand why the government, which gave the nod for the plant, is not taking any action and is just watching,” he said in a Tamil tweet.
Rajini’s remarks have come at a time when protests have intensified in Tuticorin district against Sterlite. The agitation has received widespread support from political leaders and people from other parts of the state.
On Sunday, Rajini’s competitor in cinema and politics, Kamal Haasan, who recently floated a party called Makkal Needhi Maiam, will visit Tuticorin to extend solidarity to the protesting people.
