A festival mood prevailed at theatres screening 2.0 this morning, with fans of superstar Rajinikanth indulging in huge celebrations.
Since some theatres started screening special shows from as early as 4.30 am, fans gathered in front of cinema halls in huge numbers and took part in celebrations.
Though Rajinikanth reprises the role of Dr Vaseegaran and Chitti, the film is a standalone sequel and it is separate from the events of Enthiran.
In 2.0, Akshay Kumar stars as main villain Dr Richards while Chitti, the antagonist from Enthiran, is the saviour of mankind facing the ornithologist’s wrath.
According to trade experts, the movie is expected to break different records of films such as Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, Kabali and Thugs of Hindostan at the box office.
With record number of shows, it is safe to say that 2.0’s box office collection could beat Baahubali 2: The Conclusion on the opening day itself.
It is said that 2.0 might earn over Rs 70 crore in India on its opening day and cross the Rs 100-crore mark worldwide as well. Aamir Khan’s recently-released Thugs of Hindostan minted Rs 50.75 crore on its first day.
“There is a Rajinikanth, there is an Akshay Kumar, there is a huge scale and a director like S Shankar. So it does have all the elements to make big bucks at the box-office. Having said that, the box-office performance of the film will ultimately depend on its merit. The content will make all the difference,” film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi said.
