The sporadic rain that is lashing the state since last week, might continue for a few more days, said the regional meteorological centre.
According to officials in the meterological department, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry might receive rainfall in the next 24 hours, due to heat convection.
The recent spell of rain in Chennai is the result of low pressure along the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. “The sky will be cloudy and moderate rain can be expected,” officials said.
Whenever the hot westerly winds weakened, the impact of heat also reduced and aided in getting mild showers. Last year, the day temperature peaked to 41 degrees Celsius on July 10.
The recent rain brought joy to the people as June and July are usually as hot as May. “Scattered rain in the city and heavy downpour on the outskirts can be expected for the next 24 hours,” officials said.
There was a possibility for rain in a few places over the State and Puducherry for the next few days. The last 24 hours that saw showers lashing in different parts of the state, had Vellore district receive the maximum rain.
