Raghava Lawrence announces 5,000 silk sarees for women as his charitable trust marks 20 years

Actor and filmmaker Raghava Lawrence has announced a new charitable initiative aimed at bringing happiness to women in rural communities. The programme, titled Larencce Charitable Trust – The Pattu Saree Scheme, comes as his charitable trust completes 20 years of service.
Sharing the announcement on X on Sunday, Lawrence reflected on the trust’s work over the past two decades. Its initiatives have included supporting children’s education, funding heart surgeries, assisting people with physical disabilities and distributing food to those in need.
Explaining what inspired the new scheme, Lawrence recounted an encounter with a woman during one of his visits to help underprivileged people. She approached him with a letter requesting a beautiful silk saree of her own.
The request stayed with him and prompted him to consider how many women in rural areas might never have had the opportunity to own or wear a traditional pattu saree.
Moved by the experience, Lawrence decided to begin the initiative by distributing 5,000 silk sarees. He said the programme was born from a simple desire to bring smiles to women’s faces and receive their blessings.
The actor has chosen October 29, his birthday, to launch the initiative. The event will take place in Royapuram, an area where he spent a significant part of his childhood.
Seeking the public’s encouragement and support, Lawrence said he hoped the new programme would help extend the trust’s charitable work to more people. Concluding his announcement with a message that reflects his approach to philanthropy, he wrote: “Service is God.”
