Padma, who is working as a sanitation worker with the Greater Chennai Corporation, recently found 45 sovereigns of gold jewellery and handed them over to the police, thereby helping ensure that they reached their rightful owner.
From the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M.K. Stalin, to various sections of society, many have been praising Padma. With the intention of honouring her, the Central Government has released a postal stamp. Superstar Rajinikanth invited Padma to his residence and presented her with a gold chain.
In this context, director and actor Radhakrishnan Parthiban—known as a pioneer of innovations—invited sanitation worker Padma to Ethiraj College for Women and honoured her.
Speaking about this, he said:
“While I was invited as a special guest to an event held at Ethiraj College, I thought—why not have Padma also attend the event along with me as a special guest? I went to her residence in Triplicane and invited her to join me at the event. She graciously accepted the invitation and participated in the programme, where she motivated the students of Ethiraj College. In today’s situation, when the price of gold is skyrocketing, she is a humble human being who handed over 45 sovereigns of gold jewellery to the police. To appreciate her noble heart, I presented her with new footwear and a saree, and sought her blessings. This is a joyful moment that will remain in my memory forever,” he said.
Continuing, he added: “No amount of praise is enough for Padma. I also extend my appreciation to her husband, an auto driver, and other family members who have been continuously encouraging Padma, who is engaged in the challenging work of sanitation.”
Padma, a sanitation worker, hails from Pillaiyar Koil Street, Triplicane, Chennai. Last month, while she was on duty in T. Nagar, she noticed a bag lying on the road and picked it up.
Upon checking, she found that it contained 45 sovereigns of gold jewellery. She immediately handed over the jewellery at the Pondy Bazaar Police Station. During the inquiry, it was found that the jewellery belonged to Paramesh, a resident of Nanganallur, following which the jewellery was handed over to him. It is noteworthy that, following this incident, Padma has been receiving appreciation from various sections of society.
