Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M Karunanidhi today urged the state government to act on false rumours regarding chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s health.
In a statement released here, he said, “There have been widespread rumours spreading. To put an end to all this, the government should release official photos of the chief minister, who is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city”.
Questioning the administration’s lack of transparency, he said, “For a government that is usually quick to release pictures of its meetings on other ocassions, why has there been no such updates on the recent sessions that the chief minister chaired regarding, the Cauvery issue among other things?”
“This secrecy that is being maintained has pained the workers of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), who are left panicking at every false news”, he added.
The former chief minister also wondered as to why the state governor and the leaders of the AIADMK allies have not paid her a visit.
He also quoted a media report that suggested a mechanism be followed as it was during 1984, when former CM MGR fell sick.
“The state health minister made announcements on the chief minister’s health every day, to stop speculation. The same can be followed now too”, he said
