Pugazhendi set to leave AMMK, TTV to lose another strongman

TTV Dhinakaran AMMK is set to lose yet another prominent ‘wicket’ in the coming days as strongman V Pugazhendi is said to be contemplating quitting due to differences with the leadership.

Pugazhendi, AMMK spokesperson and secretary to party’s Karnataka unit, has been vociferously supporting VK Sasikala and Dhinakaran after the death of the late Chief Minister, J Jayalalithaa.

Just after Dhinakaran’s close associate Thanga Thamizh Selvan left the party to join the DMK two months ago, there were expectations that Pugazhendi too might follow suit. However, he denied it.

And now,  Pugazhenthi has found himself in the midst of a row after a leaked video clip purportedly showed him broaching the subject of exiting the party.

In the video, Pugazhenthi is seen meeting a few persons, presumably from his party. He is heard making certain remarks against party founder Dhinakaran and touching upon the possibility of quitting the AMMK.

Reacting to this, Dhinakaran on Tuesday reiterated his oft-repeated statement that one cannot prevent people from leaving the party who are keen on doing so.

“Only those who are looking for positions and post and quick growth are leaving the party. Politics is all about struggle and sacrifice and those who believe in this remain with the party,” he added.

Former minister Senthil Balaji, ex-MLAs Thanga Tamilselvan and Kalairajan, besides several district functionaries had quit the TTV party, the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, over the last few months.
