‘Promise’ Movie Review

“Love, Trust, and the Strength to Keep a Promise.”

Promise is a heartfelt romantic drama that combines an emotional love story with a meaningful social message. Arun Kumar Sekaran plays a young sales executive who falls in love with college student Nadhiya Somu. Their relationship blossoms beautifully until Nadhiya asks Arun to promise that he will give up alcohol. Although he initially agrees, he later breaks his promise, leading to misunderstandings and emotional distance between the couple.

Love ultimately reunites them, and they decide to get married. Their happiness grows further when Nadhiya becomes pregnant, but an unexpected medical diagnosis changes Arun’s life forever. The film then explores how one decision can alter a family’s future while delivering a powerful message about responsibility, honesty, and the harmful effects of alcoholism.

As both director and lead actor, Arun Kumar Sekaran delivers a sincere and natural performance that perfectly suits the character. His understated acting and realistic body language make his role relatable and engaging. Nadhiya Somu impresses with her graceful screen presence and emotional performance, especially in the latter half, where she portrays the pain, strength, and unconditional love of a devoted wife with maturity.

The supporting cast, including Amrish Puri, Prathap, Gokul, Kuna, Sundaravel, Karthik Smith, Raja, Dr. Ivan, Rajkumar, and Kalaivani, contribute effectively to the narrative. Cinematographer Vinod Kumar beautifully captures the scenic landscapes of Vellore, while Saravana Deepan’s melodious music and impactful background score enhance the emotional depth of the film. Sriram Vignesh’s crisp editing keeps the screenplay engaging.

Despite a few minor screenplay shortcomings, director Arun Kumar Sekaran succeeds in presenting an emotionally engaging commercial entertainer with a valuable social message. Overall, Promise is a touching family drama that encourages audiences to honor their promises and make responsible choices in life.
