Priyadarshan to remake Oppam

Ace director Priyadarshan is getting ready to remake Malayalam hit Oppam in Hindi.

Sources close to the director say that Ajay Devgan will be playing Mohanlal’s role in the Hindi remake and Priyadarshan is working on the necessary changes to the original script so that it would suit the sensibility of Hindi audiences.

Oppam (English: Together) is a 2016 Indian Malayalam crime thriller film scripted and directed by Priyadarshan, based on a story by Govind Vijayan.

The film, produced by Antony Perumbavoor for Aashirvad Cinemas stars Mohanlal, Samuthirakani, Anusree, Vimala Raman, Nedumudi Venu, and Baby Meenakshi in primary roles. Mohanlal plays Jayaraman, a blind man and the prime suspect in a crime he encountered.

Principal photography commenced on 5 March 2016 in Kochi and completed on 14 June 2016 in Chitranjali Studio in Thiruvananthapuram.

Oppam was released in India on 8 September 2016. The film received positive reviews from critics, who mostly praised Mohanlal’s performance as a blind man. In two months, the film grossed ₹61 crore (610 million) worldwide to become the third highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time.
