President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday visited ailing DMK president M Karunanidhi at Kauvery Hospital in Chennai and enquired about his health.
Soon after the visit, the Rashtrapati Bhavan tweeted: “Visited Thiru M Karunanidhi in Chennai, met Kalaignar’s family members and doctors and inquired about his health. Wishing the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, a veteran of our public life, a quick recovery.”
During his hospital visit, the President briefly interacted with Karunanidhi’s son and DMK working president M K Stalin and DMK MP Kanimozhi.
The visit lasted for about 15 minutes. After coming out of the hospital, the President, in a rare gesture, got down from his vehicle to wave at the crowd that had gathered in front of the hospital. Governor Purohit and Minister D. Jayakumar were also present.
Earlier in the day, when the President landed in Chennai, Governor Purohit and Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami received him at the domestic air terminus.
Meanwhile, some reports claimed on Sunday that the health condition of Karunanidhi witnessed a setback again and family members were worried. However, DMK sources denied the claim and maintained that he is on the path of recovery.
A five-time Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Karunanidhi was admitted to Kauvery Hospital on July 28 after a dip in his blood pressure and has since been under treatment. His condition is said to be stable now.
