Pralhad Joshi assumes charge as Union Education Minister, says it’s a new area for him
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has taken charge of the Ministry of Education after President Droupadi Murmu accepted the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan and assigned the portfolio to him as an additional responsibility.
Speaking after assuming office, Joshi said education was a new area for him and that he was spending time understanding the ministry’s functioning before making policy decisions.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had entrusted him with the responsibility and that his immediate priority was to review ongoing programmes, interact with senior officials and familiarize himself with the department’s work.
Joshi continues to hold his existing portfolios of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and New and Renewable Energy.
Soon after taking charge, he chaired a review meeting with senior ministry officials to assess the implementation of various schemes. Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary also attended the meeting.
The additional charge was assigned through a presidential order issued on July 25 based on the Prime Minister’s advice.
