Pradeep Ranganathan hints at Dragon sequel on film’s first anniversary
A year after Dragon roared into theatres and crossed the Rs 100 crore mark, actor-filmmaker Pradeep Ranganathan has sparked fresh speculation about a possible sequel and fans are already reading between the lines.
The buzz began when director Ashwath Marimuthu marked the film’s first anniversary with a heartfelt post on X. Celebrating the journey of the 2025 blockbuster, he described working with his “self-made star” as a blast and signed off with a telling line: “WE WILL COME BACK ‘2’nd TIME.”
Pradeep’s response only intensified the chatter. Sharing an image featuring two dragons, he reflected on how their bond evolved from friendship to a director-actor partnership. He wrote that the transition took time, but now he has “the best in both,” and added, “Coming soon,” alongside the image. Though there has been no official confirmation from the production house, the exchange has fuelled speculation that a second instalment could be in the works.
The anniversary also prompted actress Kayadu Lohar to share an emotional note. Thanking audiences for embracing her character Pallavi, she described the project as the start of her journey in Tamil cinema and expressed gratitude to the team and viewers who supported the film.
Released in 2025, Dragon was Ashwath Marimuthu’s second Tamil directorial venture. The film featured Pradeep in the lead role, alongside Anupama Parameswaran, Kayadu Lohar, Mysskin, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Harshath Khan.
The story centred on a man who manipulates his way into a high-paying job, only to face the fallout of his past decisions.
Even before its theatrical release, the film reportedly recovered a substantial portion of its investment through non-theatrical rights. Upon release, it opened strongly and went on to earn HIT status in both Tamil and Telugu markets.
