Ponram confirms directing Vijay Sethupathi, says film will be rural entertainer

Sun Pictures is likely to bankroll Vijay Sethupathi’s next with director Ponram of Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam, Rajini Murugan and Seema Raja fame.

If everything falls into place, it will be the first time that a Vijay Sethupathi project is created under the name of Sun Pictures. The production house is known to fund some of big film projects from Kollywood.

Talking about the movie in an interview to TOI, Ponram said, “The script has been locked after making a few corrections in the second half. Karthik Subbaraj’s company is associating with it and we are currently in talks with a leading production company, too.”

He added: “Set against the backdrop of Dindigul, the film will be a rural masala entertainer with ample dose of comedy, love and action. But it will be different from the kind of films I have done with Sivakarthikeyan. The character written for Vijay Sethupathi is tailor-made for him.”

After bankrolling blockbuster films like Enthiran, Sarkar, Petta and Namma Veetu Pillai, the leading producer is currently bankrolling superstar Rajinikanth’s 168th film, which is directed by Siva.

Meanwhile, Vijay Sethupathi, who was last seen in Sanga Thamizhan, is currently playing the role of a villain in actor Vijay’s 64th film directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, which has been recently titled Master.
