Polls in 3 seats: AIADMK names candidates, PMK to go it alone

Ruling AIADMK Wednesday named its candidates for Thanjavur, Aravakurichi and Thirupparankundram Assembly constituencies.

While former minister V Senthil Balaji has been fielded in Aravakurichi, M Rangasamy has been pitted in Thanjavur and A K Bose in Thirupparankundram. Om Sakthi Sekar will be the AIADMK’s contestant in Nellithope in Puducherry, from where chief minister Narayanasamy is expected to contest.

On Wednesday, the AIADMK headquarters released the list of four candidates for elections in these two constituencies where the Election Commission of India (EC) had cancelled the polls after charges of large-scale bribing of voters. The EC has also notified the dates for byelections for the Thirupparankundram and Nellithope (Puducherry) constituencies.

DMK had announced on Tuesday that candidates willing to contest in the polls could file their papers in party office till October 20 and an interview will be held the next day.

Meanwhile, the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) will field candidates for the November 19 polls in Aravakurichi and Thanjavur Assembly constituencies and for the bypoll in Thiruparankundram Assembly constituency, its president G.K. Mani announced on Wednesday.

Addressing media persons, he said that the party founder S. Ramadoss would announce the names of the contesting candidates.
