Superstar Rajinikanth’s announcement of not entering politics came as a huge shock to his fans and followers. After the announcement several politicans and film personalities expressed their views.
Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar said, ‘Though he is not entering politics, I believe his support will be there for AIADMK.’
Minister Mafoi Pandiarajan said that Rajinikanth should back the AIADMK. ‘He wished for MGR’s rule in Tamil Nadu, and that can be given by AIADMK. So, Rajini should support us,’ he added.
Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan said, ‘I know everyone will ask me about Rajini’s statement. After my political rallies are over, I will go to Chennai and meet him once again. Even I have the same feelings which the fans are having right now. Though it was a little disappointing, his health is very important for me too. My Rajini should be healthy. Wherever he is, he should be good. When I go and meet him, I will tell you more on this.’
Senior Congress leader and former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram said, ‘I have been his friend for many years, going back to 1996. I had advised him earlier that he should not enter politics directly… He was a strong moral influence in 1996, and he can still be a strong moral and ethical influence in 2021 and in the future.’
