PM talks to CMs including EPS, over 53,000 new cases in 24 hours

India’s COVID-19 tally reached 22,68,676 today, with 53,601 cass being reported in a day. Recoveries rose to 15,83,490 according to the Union Health Ministry data. The total number of deaths from Covid-19 rose to 45,257 after 871 deaths were reported in last 24 hours.

Number of new cases reported per day after the four consecutive days of the COVID-19 cases. India had crossed the 20-lakh mark on Friday. India added more than 53,000 cases in a matter of 24 hours, taking the total tally to 22.6 lakh in the world’s third-worst infected country, according to the Health Ministry’s update as on August 11.

This includes over 45,200 deaths and more than 15.8 lakh patients who have recovered. The 53,601 fresh cases, though still high, are lower than the 60,000 odd cases reported everyday for the last four days. Today additional cases are the lowest in six days.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a videoconference with the chief ministers of 10 states at 11 am to take stock of the Covid-19 situation. The states include Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Punjab, Bihar, Gujarat, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.

During the meeting, TN Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami elaborated the measures taken by his government to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic in the State.

The five most-affected states by number of cases are Maharashtra (5,24,513), Tamil Nadu (296,901), Andhra Pradesh (227,860), Karnataka (178,087), and Delhi (1,46,134).
