PM Modi Celebrates Diwali Aboard INS Vikrant, Salutes Armed Forces and India’s Spirit of Self-Reliance

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi celebrated Diwali with the armed forces aboard INS Vikrant today, honouring India’s naval heroes and reaffirming the nation’s march towards self-reliance in defence. Addressing the personnel, he described the occasion as “a remarkable day, moment, and sight,” symbolizing the strength of Mother India and her brave protectors.

Amid the vast ocean and the might of the indigenously built Vikrant, Shri Modi compared the sunlight on the sea to the lamps lit by valiant soldiers during Deepavali. Calling INS Vikrant a testament to India’s 21st-century strength and innovation, he hailed it as a “powerful symbol of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Made in India.” The Prime Minister noted that India’s defence production has tripled in the past decade, crossing ₹1.5 lakh crore, with over 40 indigenous warships and submarines delivered since 2014.

Praising the valour of the armed forces, Shri Modi saluted the Navy, Air Force, and Army for their courage, coordination, and contribution to national security. He credited their combined might for historic successes like Operation Sindoor and the eradication of Maoist extremism in over 100 districts.

Highlighting India’s growing role as a global maritime power, the Prime Minister underlined the Navy’s role in safeguarding crucial trade routes and providing humanitarian aid—from the Maldives and Sri Lanka to Indonesia and Madagascar. He affirmed India’s emergence as a trusted global partner and a rising defence exporter, with indigenous missiles like BrahMos and Akash gaining global recognition.

Concluding his address, Shri Modi declared that India’s armed forces represent not just strength but service, standing firm “from the highest peaks to the deepest seas.” He extended heartfelt Diwali greetings to all citizens, proclaiming with pride: “Bharat Mata Ki Jai!
