A 10-year-old boy from Chennai, G Shashank has donated Rs 1,000 to the efforts of cleaning the river Ganga. The boy got the amount by securing the first prize in a school competition.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he requested to utilize his contribution for “the Ganga River Cleaning process”.
He also mentioned that he is sending the contribution to the National Relief Fund as he wants to do “national work”. In the letter, Shashank referred to Ganga as the ‘religious river of our country’ and that we should ‘maintain it’. The boy also invited PM Modi to his house in Chennai.
In the letter, he shared the details of the competition he won. A student of DAV School, Shashank studies in grade 5 and won a Sanskrit based competition.

PK Bali, Under Secretary, from the Prime Minister’s Office wrote back to Shashank thanking him and informing him that the Prime Minister appreciates the “thoughtful gesture”.
