CBCID has reportedly said that so far 101 persons have been arrested in connection with the PM-Kisan scheme scam in Tamilnadu.
Officials were also quoted as saying that so far 105 crore has been seized. Apart from this, sources said that 100 officials have been suspended in connection with the case.
After registering the first information report late last month, Crime Branch – Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) started probe into the multicrore PM-Kisan scam in which ineligible persons were enrolled in the scheme.
Based on a complaint from Joint Director of Agriculture T Vivekanandan, the CB-CID has registered the case for cheating, forgery and criminal breach of trust against 16 persons, all individuals and those who ran common services centre for uploading fake documents to claim assistance meant for farmers under the scheme.
According to the police, most of the accused are computer operators and junior officers in the agriculture department.
The police said the arrested individuals had made Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) labourers apply, assuring them Covid-19 relief. They had collected Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 from each applicant.
After applying, the beneficiaries received Rs 2,000, which was credited to their bank accounts from the PM Kisan Scheme.
