The police have cracked the case of a sensational robbery which took place at a banker’s residence at Pallavaram in Chennai.
The family’s domestic help Maharani who allegedly helped the gang members enter the house and decamp with the gold has been held.
The police also arrested two persons in Madurai in connection with the crime. A special team of police is in Madurai, it is learnt.
Soon after the robbery, police believed that she had a major role to play in the robbery. “She knew that the banker’s daughter had given the gold to her parents and the family was planning to keep it in bank lockers on Monday. So, the loot might have been planned on Sunday itself,” police sources had said.
The gang of masked men barged into the house of Senthamizh Yogeswaran, CGM of Repco Bank, in Pallavaram and robbed 220 sovereigns of jewels on Sunday evening after tieing up the inmates at knifepoint.
Police said that the incident happened at the house of Senthamizh Yogeswaran, manager of Repco Bank located in Perumal Nagar, around 5.30 pm on Sunday.
It took nearly 30 minutes for Senthamizh to wriggle himself out of the rope and he helped his wife out of the rope as well. When they came out, they noticed the servant also tied up.
