In a rarity, the ruling AIADMK and main opposition DMK of Tamil Nadu have extended their firm support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to defend the nation”s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the wake of face-off with China in Ladakh.
Deputy Chief Minister and AIADMK Coordinator O Panneerselvam on Friday said the AIADMK would firmly stand behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Centre, and the Armed Forces in defending the country’s borders, and would back all proposed measures to be taken by them in this regard.
Speaking at a virtual all-party meet, he said, “Not an inch of the Indian territory will ever be conceded. As our leader J Jayalalithaa had repeatedly emphasised, the territorial integrity of the country must be preserved at any cost. There can be no compromise on this aspect.”
DMK president MK Stalin also welcomed the PM’s statement that India would protect her self-respect, and every single inch of its territory, from any external aggression. He added, “The DMK stands firmly with the PM, at this moment. We will not retreat when the battle cry has been sounded.”
Stalin said his party stood firmly, “with the Prime Minister, at this moment, in regard to any steps he must take to protect the integrity, and sovereignty of India. We will not retreat, when the battle cry is sounded. Let us go forth, as a country together, and restore, the pride of India.”
The virtual meeting was attended by Sonia Gandhi (Congress), JP Nadda (BJP), Uddhav Thackeray (Shiv Sena), MK Stalin (DMK), Edappadi K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam (AIADMK), N Chandrababu Naidu (TDP), Jagan Mohan Reddy (YSR Congress), Sharad Pawar (NCP), Nitish Kumar (JD-U), Mamata Banerjee (TMC), Akhilesh Yadav (Samajwadi Party), D Raja (CPI), Sitaram Yechury (CPM), K Chandrashekar Rao (TRS), Sukhbir Badal (Akali Dal), Chirag Paswan (Lok Janshakti Party) and Hemant Soren (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha).
