OPS presents TN’s interim budget

The final session of State Assembly before the elections is being held today with the presentation of the interim budget.

The interim budget is being tabled by Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam. This will be the 11th time that Panneerselvam is presenting the budget. The budget will be tabled at 11am. Sources said that the discussion on the budget will go on for three days. The Assembly was earlier convened on 2 February and was held till 5 February.

Sources also said that budget is likely to have attractive announcements which was recently discussed in the state cabinet meeting. It should be noted that the Assembly hall in the centuries-old Fort St George premises was considered unsuitable in view of the COVID-19 pandemic and hence, the Assembly session was moved to the Kalaivanar ArangamDMK boycotted the last session completely.

Leader of Opposition in the House M K Stalin condemned the Governor Banwarilal Purohit’s inaction in deciding on the clemency of the seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case after the Cabinet had sent a resolution in 2019 for their release. “..,the Governor has not given any formal response nor created a situation for their release,” said Stalin. He also accused the Governor of colluding with chief minister Edapaddi Palaniswami and his ministers in corruption.
