OPS’ brother Raja expelled from AIADMK
The ruling AIADMK Wednesday sacked its coordinator and Tamil Nadu deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam’s brother O Raja from the party for alleged anti-party activities.
A statement signed by chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Panneerselvam said Raja was removed “for having acted against the party’s principles and ideologies, and for bringing disrepute to the party.”
The two leaders, in a short statement, said that Raja has been sacked from all posts, including the AIADMK’s primary membership.
While it was initially alleged that the action against the brother of the deputy CM was over his meeting with AMMK Chief TTV Dhinakaran in September, reports also say that the expulsion is a result of infighting.
This decision from the party heads comes on the day that Raja was elected as the local chairman of the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation from Madurai. He was reportedly selected unopposed from the region sparking allegations of conspiracy within the federation.
Raja, who is the former Periakulam municipal chairman, is one of the accused in the case of the abetment of the suicide of a dalit priest in Theni district.
Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar who spoke to the media outside the AIADMK officer merely stated that Raja’s anti-party activities had led to this decision.
