The online retail leader in India, Amazon, launched its first fulfilment centre or warehouse in the state of Andhra Pradesh (AP) at Nidamanuru which is 11 kms away from Vijayawada. Mr. Akhil Saxena, the Vice President for Customer Fulfilment at Amazon.in informed the media that the Amazon’s fulfilment centre has spread across 20,000 square feet of area.
Additionally, it has the massive storage capacity of nearly 15,000 cubic feet. This fulfillment centre is one amongst the largest of those in the country and is located near to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad. This new giant fulfillment centre would also help in handling the returns in an effective and quicker way.
With this addition, the retail giant has added up the storage capacity of nearly 3.2 million cubic feet in Andhra Pradesh alone. Mr. Saxena stated that the fulfillment centre is added to cater to the upcoming Amazon Prime Day 2018 sale, from the July 16 noon to the end of July 17. One can avail their favourite products at exciting prices via various Amazon coupons.
He said, “The centre encourages local sellers to stock up on the latest fashion for Prime Day. It will enable Amazon.in to offer faster deliver to customers.” When Mr. Saxena was questioned on the number for employment introduced at the Amazon fulfillment centre in India, he did not provide a specific number.
Although, the Vice President for Customer Fulfilment at Amazon India stated – “I think the centre will create indirect jobs, because we will be sourcing packaging material, logistical support and security services locally.” Being near to Vijayawada, which is the prime location in the Andhra Pradesh, more than 7000 new merchants across the state have already registered with the global retail distributor, Amazon.
It is noteworthy that there are more than 1400 sellers alone in the Vijayawada city. It is expected that the new facility centre will observe more registrations of the sellers in upcoming days till the time it has space for storage.
Since it is Amazon’s first warehouse in the state, it aims at reducing the delivery time for its customers from the nearby locations. Other than this, the new fulfillment centre will also reduce the cost that the company incurs in both storage and delivery of the products from the distant and rented warehouses.
Other than the Nidamanuru fulfillment centre, Amazon has plans to establish four such more warehouses in India in 2018. In the long run, the company has plans to introduce more than 50 such fulfillment centres across the country, which could have the storage capacity of more than 20 million cubic feet.
Mr. Saxena stated on this – “We see a rapid growth in sellers from Andhra Pradesh. The facility will now be able to give better service to both the sellers from the region and buyers from across the country.” He also spoke – “With this facility it will be possible to serve customers with a one-day, two-day delivery. The centre will enable sellers to use local infrastructure, save capital and help them grow their businesses. The centre will work closely with local communities, create numerous skilling and employment opportunities for thousands of youth. With more than 10,000 sellers in Telangana, the selection offered by sellers in the State for immediate delivery has grown more than 120 per cent this year as compared to last year.”
About the Amazon Prime Day 2018 Sale
With the introduction of its fulfillment centre, Amazon aims at boosting up its sale at the Amazon Prime Day 2018 sale from the July 16, 2018, noon, to the end of July 17, 2018. India will be one of the 17 nations where the Amazon Prime Day deal would be open for the retail customers.
Amazon Prime Day is an annual event, which was started back in 2015. It opens a window of 36 hours every year to bring the best deals of the year for the Prime customers.
It will be the fourth consecutive year when Amazon would offer their Prime customers from multiple countries (along with India) to participate in it. Apart from it, this will be the first time when Amazon Prime members from India will be able to avail the hundreds of international deals during the Prime Day event.
It is reported that from the 100 million Amazon Prime subscribers across the globe, around 10 million individuals hail from India. Amazon is now focusing on the boosted sale majorly from the major metro cities of India through their Prime Now mobile app.
The customers placing their orders during Prime Day’s 36 hours would also be offered delivery of select products to their address within just two hours of order placing. It will also launch around 200 new products from the Prime Day 2018 specifically for their Indian customers.
