“One Man” Movie Review
One Man – A Film That Redefines the Meaning of a “One-Man Show”
Sankagiri Rajkumar’s One Man is more than a conventional film—it is an ambitious and fascinating experiment in filmmaking. What makes the project remarkable is Rajkumar’s extraordinary involvement in almost every aspect of its creation, including writing, acting, cinematography, editing, dubbing, graphics, music and direction. Reportedly developed over nearly six years, the film reflects an exceptional level of patience, passion and determination.
What makes One Man particularly interesting is that it is not simply a story about a lone individual. Rajkumar has attempted to create a complete cinematic world involving multiple characters, locations, visual effects and different roles, with himself appearing in several characters. The story has been described as involving four friends who become lost in a forest and discover a shut-down chemical factory, providing the foundation for a larger adventure.
The greatest achievement of One Man is undoubtedly Rajkumar’s determination. Filmmaking is normally a collaborative art requiring writers, actors, cinematographers, editors, musicians, technicians and many other professionals. Rajkumar’s project boldly challenges that traditional model with a simple question: Can one person make an entire movie?
With One Man, his answer is an inspiring “yes.”
The range of responsibilities he undertook is remarkable, reportedly extending from camera and lighting to editing, dubbing, graphics, animation, 3D modelling, colour correction and music. For aspiring independent filmmakers, this makes the film particularly valuable. It demonstrates that curiosity, technology and a willingness to learn can open creative possibilities even when resources are limited.
Of course, viewers may notice areas that feel less polished than those in a conventional big-budget production. But these aspects can also be appreciated in the context of the film’s unique production journey. Rather than focusing only on limitations, it is more rewarding to recognise the ambition and effort behind them.
The real story of One Man is ultimately Sankagiri Rajkumar’s passion for cinema. His earlier works, including Vengayam and Bioscope, have reflected his willingness to explore filmmaking beyond conventional boundaries. One Man takes that philosophy even further.
The film reminds us that cinema is not defined only by budgets, stars or large production teams. At its heart, filmmaking begins with an idea, imagination and the determination to bring that idea to life.
One Man deserves to be celebrated as an extraordinary filmmaking achievement—a unique cinematic experiment and, above all, a powerful testament to one filmmaker’s passion, persistence and belief in the possibilities of cinema.
