Tamil Nadu government has said that over 27,000 industrial disputes had been resolved in the last five years, with 10,000 of them being settled amicably.
“Due to timely intervention of conciliation authorities, 153 strikes and 32 lock-outs were effectively resolved,” Labour Minister Nilofer Kafeel informed the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
Moving the demand for grants for her department, she said due to the concerted efforts taken by the state government, there was a perceptible decline in child labour in the state.
She said the state government adopts an integrated multi-pronged strategyfor elimination of the menace of child labour, through convergence of variousdepartmental efforts to improve the health, education and well being of childrenand families from poorer sections of the society.
“Census 2001 placed the number of child labour in the state at 4.19 lakh, while Census 2011 estimated it at 1.51 lakh,” she said.
“Eradication of child labour is possible only through effective enforcement ofthe law at the grass root level”, she said, adding, district level task force was functioning in every district under the chairmanship of the district collector to monitor and strengthen enforcement activities.
