No strict action should be taken against Jai Bhim team: HC
Suriya’s Jai Bhim was one of the superhit films of 2021. Last year, the Vanniyar Sangam filed a case against Suriya, Jyotika and director TJ Gnanavel accusing them of portraying the Vanniyar community in a bad light.
The case was heard on Monday at the Madras High Court, where the judge ordered that no strict action should be taken against the team till the next hearing.
Jai Bhim spoke about the members of the Irular community who were falsely accused of theft and tortured in police custody. The film, directed by TJ Gananvel, is based on true incidents.
On July 18, the Jai Bhim case was heard at the Madras High Court. Justice Satishkumar heard the case and said that the impleading petitions should also be heard. Also, he adjourned the hearing on the petition by Suriya and Gnanavel [which was to quash the case] to July 21. In addition, the judge ordered that no strict action should be taken against Suriya, Jyotika and Gnanavel till then.
Months after the release of Jai Bhim, the Vanniyar Sangam filed a case against Suriya, Jyotika and Gnanavel for the misrepresentation of the Vanniyar community. In their petition, they demanded the objectionable scenes be removed.
