The medical and public health experts committee to the Tamil Nadu government today recommended to Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami that there is no need to extend the lockdown, which is not the solution at all times.
It however said restrictions need to be increased in areas/zones where health indicators are not satisfactory. Speaking to reporters after meeting CM, Prabhdeep Kaur, ICMR Scientist said, a lockdown is a blunt instrument; it is not a solution at all times.
The committee felt that the focus should be to reduce the death rate. This can be done by early detection of any symptom and increased testing.
Ramasubramaniyam, another member said that people should maintain social distancing and wear masks at all time. “Extending lockdown is like trying to kill a mosquito with an axe, it won’t work out after a time,” he said.
