No leave for TN cops from Nov 10: What’s the reason?

The Tamil Nadu police’s high command has directed that leave should not be availed by its personnel from November 10 till further orders.

A circular from the office of the Director General of police, said, “No leave should be granted to officers and men from 10.11.2019 onwards until further orders.”

It added: “Strength of all special units including camp office should be kept in readiness for deployment in Law and Order duties. Mobilisation of strength should something akin to mobilisation of strength for elections.”

While some say that this order has been issued in view of the Supreme Court’s verdict on Ayodhya issue which is to be delivered soon, others say the order is because of the Tamil Nadu local body elections.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu will soon have 40 cyber crime police stations and six cyber labs to tackle the increasing number of crimes. The dedicated cyber facilities will be inaugurated soon.

Recently, keeping its promise made on the floor of the assembly, the Edappadi K Palaniswami government set up the much-anticipated fourth police commission to look at various issues relating to the welfare of police personnel.
Retired bureaucrat M Sheela Priya has been appointed its chairwoman. The fourth police commission comes a decade after the last commission.
