Newly elected AIADMK MLAs take charge

M Rangasamy, V Senthil Balaji and A K Bose, who won the polls held in Thanjavur, Thirupparankundram and in Aravakurichi constituencies, formally took charge as MLAs on Tuesday.

They were sworn-in as members of the 15th Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu by Speaker P Dhanapal in the presence of senior Ministers including O Panneerselvam.

While the election in Thanjavur and Aravakurichi, which was slated to be held along with TN Assembly polls in May this year, was stopped by the Election Commission due to ‘large scale malpractices’, Thirupparankundram faced by-poll due to the death of MLA Seenivel.

The AIADMK members had defeated their nearest DMK candidates by margins ranging between 20,000 to 42,000 votes. The AIADMK’s strength in the 234-member house now stands at 136, including the Speaker.

Soon after the results were announced on November 22, chief minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa issued a statement from the Apollo Hospital where she is getting treatment, expressing gratitude to the voters of Thanjavur, Aravakurichi and Thirupparankundram constituencies who made her party candidates win.
