New syllabus will be framed based on the State Education policy. Government releases GO forming expert panel
Following the official launch of the Tamil Nadu State Education Policy (SEP) 2025, the State Government has moved swiftly to action by issuing a formal Government Order (GO) to establish two key expert committees tasked with developing the entirely new curriculum and syllabus for state board schools.
This move signifies the transition from policy drafting to concrete implementation, with the goal of rolling out the revised educational content across classrooms starting in the 2027-28 academic year.
The syllabus overhaul will be guided by a dual-committee structure. A High-Level Expert Committee, chaired by the School Education Minister and featuring notable figures from various sectors, will act as the nodal body to finalize the overall curriculum framework in line with the SEP’s core principles.
Simultaneously, a specialized Curriculum Design Committee, comprising subject matter experts, will undertake the detailed work of restructuring subjects, updating teaching methodologies, and reforming evaluation methods to ensure alignment with the state’s vision.
The SEP 2025, which notably rejects the National Education Policy’s (NEP) three-language formula in favour of the long-standing Tamil and English two-language policy, mandates a curriculum overhaul focusing on modern, future-ready competencies.
