Neighbour held for murdering woman in city

Police today claimed to have solved the murder case of a woman in Chennai, with the arrest of her neighbour and her relative.

It is said that Suganthi and her relative Yovan tied the hands and legs of Dhanalakshmi, murdered her and locked her body inside the house. She said she did this since she had a tiff with Dhanalakshmi over money transactinos.

The  48-year-old woman, who had been missing since Tuesday, was found murdered on Thursday in front of her residence at Makkis Garden, Thousand Lights.

The incident came to light when one of the neighbours who sensed foul smell from a hut behind the victim’s house alerted Dhanalakshmi’s husband Palani. When they checked inside, they found Dhanalakshmi’s body.

“There was chilly powder strewn around the body, to throw sniffer dogs off the scent of the killers,” said a policeman

Police suspected that the murder could have occurred a couple of days back. The body was sent to a government hospital for postmortem.
