NDMA team arriving to assess flood impact in city
A team of officials from the national disaster management authority (NDMA) will tour the city from Monday to assess the extent of the damage caused by cyclone Michaung.
Chief secretary Shiv Das Meena, who inspected various flood-hit localities of the city on Sunday, said the six-member team headed by NDMA advisor Kunal Satyarthi will inspect the city on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“Officials from power, highways, and urban affairs, among others, will be present on the team too,” he said.
The chief secretary inspected flood-hit Manali’s Sadayankuppam area in North Chennai, which was affected by oil spillage and inundation. He inspected the water levels in the Kosasthalaiyar, which swelled and flooded Manali, apart from distributing essentials to the economically-weaker section of the area.
“100% power has been restored in the city, with Sai Balaji Nagar in Pallikaranai being the last to get power on Sunday evening. This area is located just next to the marshland, and all the water from other areas drained here,” he said. Meena said all sectors like milk, power, transport, drinking water and markets have begun functioning normally.
