Popular actress Namitha joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of party working president J P Nadda in Chennai on Saturday.

Speaking to the media, she said she was impressed with the great work of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and would work hard for the growth of the party in Tamil Nadu.

She earlier was the state’s ruling party AIADMK. With Tamilnadu assembly elections are nearing, many actors are joining the BJP. On the same day, veteran actor Radha Ravi too joined the BJP.

BJP’s national general secretary P Muralidhar Rao tweeted: “BJP is the future of South Indian Politics. Famous actress Namitha and actor Radha Ravi joined BJP in presence of BJP National Working President Shri @JPNadda ji in Chennai.:

Radha Ravi who used to campaign for DMK previously joined AIADMK in the early 2000s due to a difference of opinion with the DMK leadership. During the 2002 Assembly elections, he was fielded by the AIADMK from the Saidapet constituency. In the 2006 elections, however, he was not re-nominated. While he rejoined AIADMK in 2010 he remained inactive in the party until he moved back to DMK in 2017.

He was suspended from the DMK for a remark against actress Nayanthara earlier this year and then joined the AIADMK. A popular Tamil and Telugu actress, Namitha had joined the AIADMK in the presence of former Chief Minister late J Jayalalithaa in early 2016, it may be recalled.

Nadda’s maiden visit to Tamil Nadu after being appointed BJP working president began with two actors – Radha Ravi and Namitha – joining the party. While Radha Ravi joined BJP in Nadda’s presence at the airport in the morning, Namitha met him in the evening.
