Nainar Nagenthran targets Rahul Gandhi over Modi mimicry row
BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagenthran has criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over a mimicry act involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a public programme in Indore.
In a statement, Nainar said the performance was disrespectful to an elected Prime Minister and accused Rahul Gandhi of diminishing the dignity associated with parliamentary democracy.
The controversy relates to Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme in Indore on Saturday, where a comedian performed an imitation of Modi. Clips of the act later circulated widely on social media.
Nainar alleged that Rahul Gandhi had repeatedly engaged in what he described as theatrical politics following electoral setbacks. He also questioned whether the Congress leader could win public confidence while, in Nainar’s characterisation, appearing only intermittently on political platforms.
The BJP leader urged Rahul Gandhi to reconsider such political tactics and behave in a manner he said was more consistent with the responsibilities of parliamentary politics.
