Naatu Naatu wins Oscar for Best Original Song, Elephant Whisperers for Best Documentary Short

Naatu Naatu from SS Rajamouli’s RRR has won the Oscar in the Best Song category.

It had to beat the other nominees in the category – Applause (Tell It Like a Woman), Hold My Hand (Top Gun Maverick), Lift Me Up (Black Pather Wakanda Forever), and This is a Life (Everything Everywhere All at Once).

With this, the film became the first song from any Indian film to win the award.

Also, it is the second Indian song to win this prestigious award, after Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire won one in 2009 in the same category.

There had also been an energetic performance to the song. Rahul Sipligunj and Kalaa Bairavaa did a live performance on-stage and even though Ram Charan and Jr NTR did not shake a leg, dancers took over the stage and performed the much-loved hook-step.

Meanwhile, Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga’s Netflix documentary short, The Elephant Whisperers, has won the Oscar for Best Documentary Short category at the 95th Academy Awards.

The film was competing against Haulout, How Do You Measure a Year?, The Martha Mitchell Effect and Stranger At The Gate.
