Chennai residents can expect pleasant days ahead with the regional meteorological centre predicting a cloudy sky and mild to moderate rain in the days to come.
For the rest of Tamil Nadu, heavy rains are expected in some areas. The city is expected to receive light rains during the day. The sky will remain cloudy, says a forecast by the regional meteorological centre.
Incessant rains lashed Chennai city and suburbs in some parts of the State thanks the low pressure area. According to officials, rain may keep Chennai cool for one or two more days due to a prevailing weather system. However, chances of widespread rainfall are also there in some parts of Tamil Nadu.
The northern parts of Tamil Nadu received moderate rainfall activity during the last 24 hours. The RMC has said that a low pressure area is likely to develop over central and adjoining Bay of Bengal in the next 24 hours.
The western parts of Chennai witnessed heavy rainfall over the past couple of days leading to fast filling up of reservoirs like Puzhal and Chembarambakkam lakes.
As of Wednesday, Puzhal and Chembarambakkam lakes have 593 mcft and 394 mcft of water, compared to just 122 mcft and 213 mcft water on the same day last year. Not only that, inflow into Mettur dam has increased from 8,483 cusecs to 9,119 cusecs due to the rain.
