Following several COVID positive cases reported at IIT-Madras, the Greater Chennai Corporation collected samples from around 6,300 students and identified more than 200 positive cases.
According to Corporation data, 6,344 samples were taken from college students in the city till Wednesday.
“As many as 210 students were confirmed positive for the virus and results of 2,361 samples are still awaited,” sources said.
Among the 210 students, 200 were from colleges and educational institutions located in Adyar zone, in which IIT-Madras and Anna University are functioning.
Five students were tested positive in Valasaravakkam zone, while three were positive in Sholinganallur. One student each from Alandur and Perungudi were also tested positive.
The civic body began collecting samples from educational institutions soon after more than 70 COVID cases were reported at IIT-Madras on Sunday.
