Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday extended greetings to Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president and former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi on his 95th birthday.
In his Twitter page, the PM posted: “Best wishes to Kalaignar M.Karunanidhi Ji on his birthday. A prolific writer, poet, thinker and orator, Karunanidhi Ji is one of India’s senior-most political leaders. May he be blessed with a long and healthy life. @kalaignar89.”
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted, “Warmest birthday greetings to M Karunanidhi @kalaignar89 Ji. I pray for your good health and happiness.”
Congress President Rahul Gandhi and leaders too extended their greetings. Meanwhile, DMK working president M K Stalin on Sunday said the decision to withdraw boycott of the ongoing Assembly session was taken following requests from various sections of people.
He said leaders of alliance parties too requested the DMK to attend the Assembly. On Saturday, the DMK had said it was withdrawing its decision to boycott the Assembly till chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami resigned.
Tamil Nadu assembly on Friday witnessed a sharp exchange of words between Minister P Thangamani and AMMK leader T T V Dhinkaran over the issue of phased implementation of prohibition, leading to a walkout by the latter. After a two-day break, the Assembly is meeting again today.
