Modi to visit Chennai on Sept 30

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Chennai on September 30, to attend the convocation of IIT-Madras. This will be his first visit to Chennai after bouncing back to power for the second consecutive term.

According to sources, Modi has accepted an invitation from IIT-Madras, which is celebrating its diamond jubilee with various events on a global scale.

In 83 cities across the globe, over 3,500 alumni of IIT-Madras celebrated the Diamond Jubilee of the institute on July 13. As the institute crosses the milestone of 60 years, the IIT-Madras Alumni celebrated the Diamond Jubilee on a global scale with events planned simultaneously in major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru and Pune on July 13.

Meanwhile, Modi is launching ‘Fit India Movement’ today. During his latest Mann Ki Baat — a radio address by the PM — Modi had asked people to take part in ‘Fit India Movement’ which is being organised to celebrate the upcoming ‘National Sports Day’ today.

The launch event will be held at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi. At the event, the prime minister will address people and will also administer a fitness pledge.

A committee comprising government officials, members of Indian Olympic Association (IOA), national sports federations, private bodies and fitness promoters has been formed to advise the government on the campaign.

After the direct telecast of the programme, along with the indoor/ outdoor physical activities like team games, cultural dances for students, show match etc for teachers, public representatives and citizens will also be organized.
