Prime miniser Narendra Modi and union home minister Rajnath Singh have assured all support to Tamil Nadu, which is hit hard by Vardah Cyclone.
Modi said in a tweet: “My prayers are with all those people who are affected due to adverse weather conditions caused by #CycloneVardah. Stay safe,”
He added: “Centre, @ndmaindia is working closely with local administrations & army for safety of life and property.”
Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh to take stock of the situation in the two states following the landfall of cyclone Vardah and assured them of all help.
Chennaiites woke up to uprooted trees, big broken branches blocking the roads, fallen name boards, hoardings, damaged compound walls and vehicles under fallen trees, power cut and lack of milk supplies on Tuesday, a day after severe cyclone Vardah ripped through the city.
As the cyclone moved over the city, workers and residents grabbed the lull between 3pm and 5pm that went without rain and wind to swing into action. Teams from six districts including Tanjore, Cuddalore and Trichy were also on their way to Chennai to help.
